Lublin wins the “Local Government in Energy Transition” 2025 award

The jury recognized our city for its systemic efforts toward the green transition, including the development of zero-emission public transport, the Lublin Railway Station, and investments in renewable energy sources.

The winning application was prepared by the Energy Policy Unit of the Lublin Municipality within the Department of Property and Energy Management. The award was accepted on behalf of the Mayor of Lublin by Beata Orzechowska, Deputy Director of the Department for Energy, on September 18 during the 3rd Distributed Energy Congress in Kraków. Congratulations and thank you!

“Our investments in public transport, renewable energy, and innovative urban infrastructure bring tangible benefits to residents and demonstrate that modern, eco-friendly solutions work in practice. Lublin was recognized for the consistent implementation of its green transition strategy. Thanks to these actions, we are becoming a model for other municipalities, effectively combining infrastructure development with environmental protection,” said Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin.

In the category of cities with county rights, Lublin was named the winner, with Konin and Tychy as finalists. The city was recognized above all for expanding zero-emission public transport, building the Lublin Railway Station, investing in renewable energy at the wastewater treatment plant, and modernizing and developing Lublin’s district heating system. The aim of the competition is to identify best practices that can serve as examples for other municipalities.

Organizers and participants of the competition

The organizers of the 3rd Distributed Energy Congress and the “Local Government in Energy Transition” 2025 competition are the Miasto Foundation and the Association of Polish Cities. This year’s edition attracted 33 municipalities from 14 provinces, including 15 urban-rural municipalities, 8 towns, and 10 cities with county rights. Finalists presented their projects in Kraków during the Congress, showcasing both achieved results and future plans. Winners were selected by a vote of all panel participants following the presentations in each of the three categories of municipalities.
