Lublin Metropolitan Station wins Property Design Awards 2024

The Lublin Metropolitan Station has won this year's edition of the Property Design Awards 2024. By the decision of the jury and the readers of the portal, it received an award in the category of "Structure – Public Facilities."

Lublin Metropolitan Station stands as our flagship urban investment, a source of immense pride. This modern, ecologically conscious facility, complete with platforms, is the centerpiece of a multifunctional European Union project. This award is recognition not only for the City of Lublin but also for the design office. We extend our gratitude for acknowledging our unique station, which captivates residents of Lublin and the entire nation. Information about our investment is featured in industry and global media. We aspire to inspire other cities in developing similar facilities, stated Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin.

Designed by Tremend, Lublin Metropolitan Station is a distinctive project. Its simple structure aligns with ecological principles, featuring standout elements in the form of impressive columns. The architectural character is defined by openwork pillars, integral to the steel structure of the station and platform roofing, serving both structural and decorative purposes. The initial sketches of the pillars drew inspiration from Lublin cut-outs, with their linear, somewhat organic forms resembling grapevines – one of Lublin’s symbols – contributing to the overall lightness of the structure.

Lublin Metropolitan Station has already earned several accolades, including a spot on the shortlist for the World Building of The Year award in the Infrastructure category at the 2019 World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam. In 2020, it received the prestigious Real Estate Impactor award from the “Rzeczpospolita” newspaper in the Innovative Approach to Space Design category. In 2022, it was honored in the PLGBC Green Building Awards competition in the “Best Ecological Project” category.

In the “Structure – Public Facilities” category, Lublin Metropolitan Station competed with other notable projects: the Environmental Education Center in Gliwice, the Outpatient Clinic for Large Animals at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, the expansion of the County Office building in Wrocław, and the School-Kindergarten Complex in Wrocław.

The Property Design Awards, now in its eighth edition, recognizes outstanding architecture and well-designed spaces. The competition aims to highlight the best commercial and public projects in Poland and their creators. Entries considered were those completed by the end of 2023. The competition is organized by the PTWP Group, the publisher of PropertyDesign.pl and PropertyNews.pl, and the organizer of the 4 Design Days event. The final results reflect several months of work by the organizers and the jury, with the deadline for submissions on November 16, 2023. Subsequently, the final five nominations in each category were selected from the proposals received. The next stage involved voting by the Competition Jury and readers of Propertynews.pl and Propertydesign.pl, concluding on December 18, 2023.

The awards ceremony took place on January 25 at a gala held at the International Congress Center in Katowice.
